30 YEARS OF THE BREAKS TOUR!

Kurtis Blow, one of the founders and creators of recorded rap, stands as an emerging leader in a new generation of rappers with street sense, social criticism, and commercial savvy, a timeless artist and hip hop legend, Kurtis Blow has been instrumental in raising up a generation of MC’s, and he will soon carry the torch for hip hop music into new arenas.

In 1979, at the age of twenty, Kurtis Blow became the first Rapper to be signed by a major label. Mercury released “Christmas Rappin,” and it sold over 400,000 copies and it became an annual classic. Its gold follow up “The Breaks” helped ignite a still spreading international “Rap Attack.” He released 10 Albums over 11 years — The first entitled “Kurtis Blow”, his full length debut and his second, a Top 50 Pop Album “Deuce,” a big hit across Europe; “Party Time” which featured a pioneering fusion of Rap and Go Go; “Ego Trip,” which includes the hits “8 Million Stories”, “AJ”, and “Basketball” and in 1985, “America.” “America’s video innovation received a MTV Monitor Award. From this album, the song “If I Ruled the World” became a top 5 hit on Billboard’s R & B chart. Columbia/Sony recording artist Nas debuted at # 1 on the Billboard’s Pop Album chart with a cover of the song in 1997.

He was honored to coordinate “King Holiday”, along with Dexter Scott King, a song to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s Birthday. The Mercury/Polygram single co produced by Kurtis Blow includes the collaborative efforts of Whitney Houston, New Edition, Stephanie Mills, El Debarge, James “JT” Taylor of Kool & the Gang, The Fat Boys and Run DMC among others. It has become an annual Holiday Classic.

Besides his own work, Kurtis has been responsible for Rap hits by The Fat Boys and Run DMC. Run began his career billed as “The son of Kurtis Blow.” Love Bug Starski, Sweet Gee, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Full Force, Russell Simmons and Wyclef Jean all have been produced or have worked with Blow in the past. Additionally former label mates Rene & Angela had their chart topping debut “Save Your Love for # 1” gift wrapped by Kurtis Blow.

Kurtis Blow’s acting performances and music coordination in several movies including Leon Kennedy’s “Cry of the City” and the hit film “Krush Groove” has won him continual praise. The New York Daily News called his cinematic works “Noteworthy, A Dynamic Presence.” As host and co producer for “Das Leben Amerikanischer Gangs” an international film production’s focus on the West Coast gang scene, Kurtis Blow crossed international waters for inner city justice (1995). As host and associate producer for “Rhyme and Reason” a Miramax film, KB gives an informative account of the present status of Hip Hop (1998). “The History Of Rap” Produced and written by Kurtis, is soon coming to a theatre near you.

Kurtis Blow speaks out emphatically against racism. His raps, with cinematic sensibilities, open the world’s eyes and ears to inner city truth as much as they celebrate the purer pleasure of modern living. He was also an active participant in the blistering Artist Against Apartheid Record “Sun City.” Kurtis Blow speaks out emphatically against Alcohol and Drugs. Kurtis’ innate ability to reach people is also evident in his selection as spokesperson for The National Ad Counsel. He is an integral part of its youth campaign and can be seen and heard in print, radio and television nationwide as the first to “Say No To Drugs.” He has also been involved with Phoenix House of California, a substance abuse organization with Black community emphasis.
In 1995 Kurtis Blow started working on-air in radio. Power 106 the # 1 CHR. Radio station in Southern California had Kurtis Blow on-air Sunday nights with The Old School Show, a highly rated specialty show that features Blow playing the hits from the past. The show was rated # 1 for 4 years. Kurtis is now working for Sirius Satellite Radio on the Classic Old School Hip Hop station Backspin 43.
In 1996 Kurtis Blow was featured in a Hip Hop display at the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame. The display still stands. In 1998 the group Next released “Too Close,” in which the music of “Christmas Rap” was sampled for the #1 pop songs background track. “Too Close” was the longest running #1 song of 1998 for Billboards Pop Chart. ASCAP honored Blow and Next at a gala affair on May 26, 1999. In 2002 after 9/11, Kurtis went overseas to the Middle East to tour the Armed Forces Bases for 17 shows to bring a little bit of back home to the troops stationed there. The tour consisted of shows in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Krgystan, Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman “It was a tour I will never forget,” Blow says, “I did the Bob Hope thing.”

Here are many of the firsts credited to Kurtis Blow:

Having made a deep commitment to the ways and teachings of Jesus Christ, Kurtis has been successful in attending Ministry classes at NYACK College. As Co-founder of the Hip Hop Church, Kurtis serves as rapper, DJ and worship leader and now licensed Minister. There are several Hip Hop Churches around the country and Kurtis is involved with many of them. “Don’t get it twisted, God has always existed,” says Kurtis, “and in terms of these young people out here who love God but do not like to go to church, only Hip Hop can bring them back to the church.” Kurtis became an Ordained Minister of the Gospels of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on August 16th 2009.

RYAN LESLIE

Diddy, Fabolous, Beyoncé Knowles, Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, New Edition, Mario Winans oder Cassie.

Ende 2005 erschien in Europa das kaum erfolgreiche Album Just Right mit den Singles The Way That U Move, Girl! und Used 2 Be (feat. Fabolous).
Erst 2007 folgte die nächste Single mit Diamond Girl, welche nur Platz 95 in den US Billboard Hot 100 und Platz 35 in den US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop erreichte. Im Mai 2008 wurde die Single Addiction (feat. Cassie) im Internet veröffentlicht und erreichte wiederum nur Platz 115 in den US Billboard Hot 100 und Platz 35 in den US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop. Die neuste Singleauskopplung trägt den Titel How It Was Supposed To Be, erreichte bisher allerdings lediglich Platz 97 in den US Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop.

DJ PEREZ (BEATHOAVENZ)

perry
The BEATHOAVENZ are not only Germany’s most successful urban producers
they are also the nation’s most sought-after dj team.
Their dj-sets are legendary and the parties they rock become unforgettable – all
due to their trademark sound that doesn’t know musical boundaries or genres.
What is important is the beat.
The rest comes with the territory. That is how people find themselves in a club not being able to do anything else but dance, intrigued by a magical mixture of Classics, Funk, Soul, Dancehall, Hip Hop, Electronica, rare Bootlegs or Bastard-/Mash-Up-Tunes.
That is why the BEATHOAVENZ are the number one choice for high profile events such as the Echo Award (Germany’s equivalent to the Grammys),German Television Award,Golden Camera Award or television charity shows like the highly popular “Red Nose Day”.
Pop stars like Robbie Williams, Eminem, Gwen Stefani and Pink book them for their after parties; and designer brands want them for their fashion shows.
They are a sure shot nobody wants to miss.

Visiting the Beathoavenz three years ago equaled an exhausting journey: There was a dark cellar in the middle of Berlin that had to be found first. After opening the big, heavy iron door the visitor was confronted with a labyrinth of corridors in which – without proper directions – everybody would have been lost helplessly. In the meantime, appointments with the producer team have become much more convenient: DJ Perez and DJ Smolface moved to the comfortable and friendly top floor of a building where they reside like the secret kings of Berlin and receive their guests in audience.
The way up from the basement to the top is quite self-explanatory if you take a look at the list of people the Beathoavenz have worked with in the last couple of years: You’ll find artists like Gwen Stefani, Ying Yang Twins, Turkish pop star Mustafa Sandal, Milk & Honey, Tarkan, Lexington Bridge, Germany’s most successful rapper Jan Delay, Reggae sensation Gentleman, Russian super star Seryoga and many more. Perry and Smoli consciously don’t confine themselves to only one genre. “No matter what artist we produce for, we stand behind it 100 per cent. Hip Hop, Reggae, Pop – there are no musical boundaries for us and we’ll never limit ourselves to only one genre!” says Perez. Nevertheless, the two have managed to create and – more importantly – establish their own unique sound. A Beathoavenz production is easily singled out. You’ll hear the characteristic synthesizer and the resulting contiguousness to electronic music. You can feel the attention and care that they put into programming the drums and you’ll be surprised by unexpected sound gimmicks that give a song a certain twist! Artists choose a Beathoavenz production when they need a club banger, an anthem! Their sound is urban yet charts compatible. They are well versed in the art of creating beats that dominate the room but also capable of composing music that gently caresses the listener. This makes them the most versatile producers of the German music industry.
In March 2006, they flaunted part of their skills on a mixtape. On Der Neue Standart the
Beathoavenz gathered all the household names of Berlin’s rap scene and inspired them to
perform as they had never performed before. Sido, Harris, Fler, Bass Sultan Hengzt, Frauenarzt, MC Bogy and Megaloh, just to name a few, all challenged yet incited by incredible Beathoavenzbeats, contributed lyrics that were unheard of. This enticed several music magazines like the German Rolling Stone or the nation’s most influential Hip Hop bible Juice into calling the mixtape “brilliant”! To this day Der Neue Standart has independently sold more than 30.000 copies.
Besides producing Germany’s hottest songs, Perry and Smoli are busy hosting their own radio show. Once a week, the Beathoavenz present two hours of carefully selected tunes that wow not only Hip Hop fans but every real music lover. Being the nation’s most sought-after club djs comes in quite handy as well: more than 15 years of mixing one song into the next combining, again, different genres and different eras, playing in front of fastidious and pretentious crowds as well intimate club gigs gives them the required keen sense of timing and the ability of “reading” their audience thus keeping it on the dance floor or at their radios at home.
At the moment, the Beathoavenz are working on a project with which, for the first time ever, they can fully realize themselves. In singer Jasmin Shakeri that found an artist who can provide in terms of voice and lyrics what the producer team demands musically: top-notch quality! Not only do they complement each other, they take each other to next level. Perry’s and Smoli’s work with Jasmin is characterized by something they call “harmonious rivalry”: both parties try to outperform the other – this competition results in songs that will set new standards in German R’n’B. As the executive producers of Jasmin Shakeri’s debut album the Beathoavenz are finally able to show off all aspects of their talent and art: ballads, club banger or street anthem – they master every variety of music.
Every Wednesday from 10 pm – 0 am they hosting their own radioshow on Berlin‘s 98,8 KISS FM Radiostation . The BEATHOAVENZ BLOGBUSTER RADIOSHOW !!!
Livestream www.kissfm.de .
From the streets to the basement to the top of Berlin – the next stop seems to be the Olympus of music: Sky’s the limit!
