Visionary Africa
Centre for Fine Arts ? 30 May to 26 September 2010
This summer the Centre for Fine Arts and the Royal Museum for Central Africa (RMCA) present “Visionary Africa”. This festival, which highlights African culture, past and present, will also serve as the starting point for a long-term vision of how to present Africa’s cultural heritage and African culture, both in Africa and in Europe.
Concretely, to mark the 50th anniversary of the independence of the Congo and of 16 other African countries, the Centre for Fine Arts presents, in collaboration with the RMCA, four exhibitions, including GEO-Graphics, as well as the cream of African music, literature, and performing arts, including committed artists such as Rokia Traoré, Angélique Kidjo, Didier Awadi, Papa Wemba, and Germaine Acogny.
The links between Belgium and the Congo, moreover, will be celebrated by special festivities under the label CONGO@BOZAR. These will culminate in a grand concert, “50 Years of Congolese Music”, whose sole European performance will be in Brussels!
A little extra spice will be offered by a public itinerary that will lead visitors to the great Horta Hall in the Centre for Fine Arts, which will be specially adapted to host broadcasts of matches from the 19th Football World Cup in South Africa, as well as concerts, screenings, activities, food and drink tasting, and more.
Via the “Visionary Africa” platform, over and above the organisation of anniversary festivities, BOZAR and the Royal Museum for Central Africa are putting forward a new vision of our relations with Africa. While the Tervuren Museum is being renovated, accordingly, a new collaborative project will be launched at the Centre for Fine Arts, starting in 2012.
An original and varied programme ? not to be missed!
