Berlin Today Award ? Berlinale Talent Campus Kurzfilmwettbewerb
Drehbeginn für die aktuelle Runde ?Leaving the familiar sector?
Bewerbungsstart für Berlin Today Award 2012 ?Every step you take?
Am Donnerstag, den 19. August 2010, beginnen in Berlin die Dreharbeiten für Mother?s Little Helper, ein Kurzfilm über die Folgen entfesselten Diät-Wahns. Der Film ist eines der fünf Projekte, die den Sprung ins Finale des Berlin Today Award 2011 ? des Kurzfilmwettbewerbs des Berlinale Talent Campus ? geschafft haben. 150 junge Filmemacher aus 55 Ländern waren der Einladung gefolgt, Projektideen zum Wettbewerbs-Motto ?Leaving the familiar sector? einzureichen und mit Produzenten aus Berlin-Brandenburg umzusetzen. Michael Lavelle aus Irland wird seinen Kurzfilm gemeinsam mit der Firma Macchiato Pictures Filmproduktion realisieren: ?Unter dem Banner der Berlinale einen Film zu drehen, hat mir die Türen geöffnet, um mit unglaublich talentierten Menschen zusammen zu arbeiten. Es ist ein großes Privileg, diesen Film mit diesem Team zu realisieren?, so Lavelle. Gedreht wird bis zum 23. August u.a. in der Villa Herz (Havel Studios) am Berliner Wannsee.
Die Dreharbeiten zur Dokumentation Hackney Lullabies von Kyoko Miyake aus Japan, einem Portrait von Immigrantinnen im Londoner Stadtteil Hackney (Produktion: Filmkantine) dauern noch bis zum 18. August, und am 23. August beginnen in Rumänien nahe Bukarest die Dreharbeiten zu Little Red, das die Initiationsgeschichte der zehnjährigen Ica erzählt (Regie: Eva Pervolovici, Produktion: Beleza Film).
In Berlin fällt am 7. September in den CCC Studios die erste Klappe zu Spoilt Broth von Regisseur Toby Roberts aus England. Der Kurzfilm über die Konkurrenz unter Bankräubern bei einem Überfall auf ein Postamt wird von der Firma Heimatmedien produziert. Den Abschluss der Wettbewerbsrunde bildet vom 13. ? 18. September in Irland der Dreh des Dokumentarfilms The Day We Danced on the Moon, das die Auseinandersetzung von Musikern mit ihren Psychoseerkrankungen zeigt (Regie: Tristan Daws, Produktion: Kloos & Co Medien).
Alle fünf Filme werden mit Förderung des Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg und Sachleistungen der Filmwirtschaft bis Ende 2010 produziert. Ihre Weltpremiere feiern die Finalisten bei der Eröffnung des Berlinale Talent Campus 2011 (12. ? 17. Februar 2011). Der Siegerfilm wird von einer Jury aus prominenten Filmschaffenden bestimmt und mit dem Berlin Today Award ausgezeichnet.
?Every step you take? ? Bewerbungsstart für den Berlin Today Award 2012
Parallel zu den Dreharbeiten der aktuellen Edition läuft der ?Call for Entries? für die neue Runde des Berlin Today Award 2012 zum Thema “Every step you take”. Kann der Flügelschlag eines Schmetterlings in Thailand einen Tornado in Texas auslösen? Kleine Entscheidungen des Alltags sind untrennbar mit unserer Zukunft verbunden. Was in einem Teil der Welt vollkommen unverfänglich erscheinen mag, kann in einem anderen Teil eine Kette von Ereignissen auslösen. Ob politisch oder privat, der Berlin Today Award 2012 lädt junge Filmemacher ein, diese Momente, in denen ein Schritt oder eine Entscheidung der Auslöser für etwas Neues wird, in einem Kurzfilmkonzept cineastisch einzufangen.
Bis zum 6. Oktober 2010 können sich Regisseure aus aller Welt und Produzenten aus Berlin-Brandenburg bewerben. Eine Vorauswahl von 15 Talenten und 10 Produktionsfirmen werden zu einem Producers? Meeting während des Berlinale Talent Campus 2011 eingeladen. Die fünf Finalisten-Teams werden im Anschluss an die 61. Internationalen Filmfestspiele Berlin bekanntgeben. Shooting begins for the current edition ?Leaving the familiar sector?
Applications open for Berlin Today Award 2012 ?Every step you take?
On Thursday, August 19, 2010, shooting begins in Berlin for Mother?s Little Helper; a short film about what happens when dieting goes wild. The film is one of five projects that have made it to the final of the Berlin Today Award 2011 ? the Berlinale Talent Campus short film competition. 150 young filmmakers from 55 countries responded to the call for projects that address the competition?s motto ?Leaving the familiar sector?, to be realised in collaboration with producers from the Berlin-Brandenburg region. Michael Lavelle from Ireland will produce his short film together with the production company Macchiato Pictures Filmproduktion: ?Directing a film under the banner of the Berlinale has opened the doors for me to collaborate with an incredibly talented group of people, and it?s a wonderful privilege to be making this film as part of such a passionate team?, says Lavelle. The shoot takes place until August 23 in Berlin at Villa Herz (Havel Studios) close to the Wannsee lake, amongst other locations.
The shoot for Hackney Lullabies, a documentary portrait of female immigrants to the London district Hackney, by Kyoko Miyake from Japan (production: Filmkantine), will continue until August 18. On August 23, shooting begins near Bucharest in Romania for Little Red, the initiation story of 10-year-old Ica (director: Eva Pervolovici, production: Beleza Film). First takes for Spoilt Broth by director Toby Roberts from England will be shot at the CCC Studios in Berlin on September 7. The short film about two bank robbers competing during a post office hold-up will be produced by Heimatmedien. The competition round will conclude in Ireland from September 13-18 with the shoot for the creative documentary The Day We Danced on the Moon, which chronicles the experiences of a group of musicians as they deal with psychotic illness (director: Tristan Daws, production: Kloos & Co Medien).
All five films are produced with support from Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and in-kind contributions from the film industry until the end of 2010. The finalist films will have their world premiere during the Opening Ceremony of the Berlinale Talent Campus 2011 (February 12-17, 2011). The winning film will be selected by a jury of prominent filmmakers and will receive the Berlin Today Award.

Parallel to cameras rolling for the current round, the call for entries has been launched for the Berlin Today Award 2012, with the theme “Every step you take”. Does the flap of butterfly wings in Thailand set off a tornado in Texas? Small decisions we take in everyday life intrinsically influence our near future. What is a harmless accessory in one part of the world might be a major statement in another that leads to a chain of reactions. Whether political or private, it is these moments of taking a step and being aware of it, that the Berlin Today Award looks for when inviting young filmmakers to send in their film ideas for the Berlin Today Award short film competition 2012.
Directors from all over the world and producers from the Berlin-Brandenburg region may apply until October 6, 2010. 15 Talents and 10 production companies will be pre-selected and invited to attend a producers’ meeting during the Berlinale Talent Campus 2011.
